NOTES

Skin was separated by the heat separation method of Kligman and Christophers (1963) Omitting the trypsinisation step so as to avoid damaging the membrane. A stainless steel mesh was used to support the membrane. The effect of the mesh and its diffusion layers was said to be negligable in comparison to the skin (data not given). Skin came from a single elderly caucasian donor.
